Top Activities To Do In Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach may be one of the most famous beaches in all of Australia, but it’s much, much more than just a beach. Only 4 miles from central Sydney, Bondi Beach is also an entire bustling town that stretches along the coast, filled with shops, cafes, and endless amounts of entertaining and adventurous activities that keep locals and tourists coming back year after year.

Ready to explore Bondi Beach? A mere 20 minute bus ride from Sydney will have you feeling like you’re in another world.  With so much to do, you will be able to fill each day with amazing adventures and wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Ready for vacation inspiration? Let’s get into some of the best activities you can enjoy while visiting beautiful Bondi Beach.

Surfing

No matter if you are just learning or an absolute legend on the water, Bondi Beach is a superb spot for surfing. You can enroll for a surfing lesson at the numerous surfing schools found at the beach and learn to surf that day! Otherwise, if you are a more experienced surfer, you can find board hire spots littered along the coast. Adept surfers should head over to South Bondi to catch the swells. Ben Buckler, a popular spot for experienced surfers in North Bondi, offers big swells and a great time.

Snorkeling

Feeling adventurous? On the east side of Bondi Beach is the north Bondi rocks, which is a spot for avid snorkeling enthusiasts. The spot offers great visibility and an array of colorful marine life, such as the Weedy Sea Dragon, which can only be found in New South Wales waters. In the summer, you can find juvenile damsels and butterflyfish as well. There are plenty of places to rent snorkeling equipment along the beach and free (but limited) parking.

Hiking

If you are ready to get some steps in, Bondi Beach offers some of the most beautiful hiking in New South Wales. The most iconic trail in Sydney is the Bondi to Bronte coastal walk and a MUST for anyone visiting this area. The hike takes you to stunning vistas that show the North and South areas of the beach as well as views of Marks Park and Mackenzies Bay, where you can watch surfers carving waves out in the water. Keep in mind this is a very popular trail and you will have a lot of other tourists walking alongside you throughout the hike.

Another incredible hike is the walk from Bondi to Coogee, a little beachside suburb which is about a 2 hour walk from Bondi Beach proper. Coogee is itself a popular destination, but adding the picturesque walk makes it an even more enjoyable activity. This hike is known as one of the most beautiful, as it cuts across cliff sides and has views of beaches, parks and rock pools. And no worries if you need a rest, there are a few stops along the way if you need a little break.

Ocean Pools

You heard that right, ocean pools! Because the ocean around Bondi Beach can be quite dangerous at times, considering the swell and rip currents, they have created an amazing idea: ocean pools. These are rectangular pools of ocean water that offer a more subdued swimming experience for beach goers. And while you are there, visit the Bondi Icebergs, a winter swimming club started in 1929. Their pool, Bondi Baths, is open to the public as well. This club and their pool have been an international landmark and it is definitely worth going to while you visit Bondi Beach.

Shopping At Bondi Markets

This open air market is a must see while staying at or near Bondi Beach. The Bondi Markets are a mix of stalls, vintage shops and newer brands as well. They are open during the weekend and are one of the top things to see during your visit. No matter what you are looking for, Bondi Markets will have it. Hungry? The markets have you covered as Saturday features a huge farmer’s market with local produce. The Sunday market features local artists and designers. There’s something for any taste or style at the Bondi Markets!
