Top 8 Reasons to Visit Bondi Beach

Top 8 Reasons to Visit Bondi Beach

World famous. Iconic. Legend. Bondi Beach is many things to Australia and people come from all over the world to walk, play, eat, swim and enjoy themselves here. Locals find it as a point of pride and tourists find it as a must stop destination on their bucket lists. But what is it exactly that drives someone to come to Bondi Beach?

Below you will find 8 of the top reasons to visit this incredible place that will have you daydreaming of sandy beaches, refreshing hikes and gorgeous views.

Reason #1: Surfing Paradise

Bondi beach is a place where many surfers come to try their hand at the waves because of its incredible breaks, but you don’t have to be an expert, in fact, there are kiosks located on the beach to help first-timers get their start. All you need to do is look out into the waves to see why surfing is one of the most popular sports and pastimes in Australia.

Reason #2: Year-Round Warm Weather

Because of the unique weather found in this part of the world, Bondi Beach is in fact open all year round. Of course, summertime is best for enjoying all the fun water activities like snorkeling, surfing, swimming and scuba diving. Even in winter, you can hop into the water if you can handle the slightly cooler temperature. Another plus of visiting in the winter is less crowding on the beaches.

Reason #3: Entertaining Beachside Festivals

Bondi Beach holds yearly festivals and cultural events, which are important to learn more about the country and the people who live in it. There are all types of festivals as well and visiting at a time when one of them is going on is quite the treat.

Some of the more popular and better known festivals are:

  • Sculptures By The Sea. A festival that is designed to be an open-air gallery, features well over 100 different sculptures up and down the shoreline during the months of October and November.
  • Festival Of The Winds. A family-friendly festival where people come together to build and fly kites.
  • Bondi Winter Magic Festival. During the winter months of June to August, this festival boasts ice skating, a large ferris wheel and one of the world’s largest fun runs that brings in over 80,000 people yearly.
  • Vans Bowl-A-Rama. A tradition for almost 30 years, the Bowl-A-Rama is a skateboarding competition that includes a 12 foot ramp. Skateboarders from all over the world come to view and participate in this event.

Reason #4: Picturesque Scenery

It is well known that Bondi Beach has some of the most iconic views in the world and seeing a sunrise or sunset will endear you to this place forever. Many of the hikes to the other beaches from Bondi have incredible vistas to check out along the way as well.

Reason #5: Bondi Markets

Every weekend, the Bondi Beach Public School hosts a public market. On Saturdays it springs to life in the form of a farmer’s market while on Sundays, it turns into a fashion lover’s dream, with vendors selling everything from clothes by famous brands and designers to rare vintage pieces. You can also find jewelry, food, music and much more at the markets.

Reason #6: Bondi Pavilion Theatre

If you’re in the mood for a respite with some culture while visiting Bondi Beach, look no further than the Bondi Pavilion. This is a great place to see theatrical performances, musical performances, and art galleries. Check out the balcony for a stunning view of the beach. Check out the pavilion’s calendar of events to see what is in store for your next visit.

Reason #7: Bondi to Coogee Walk

A hiker’s delight and a sightseer’s dream, this cliff top coastal walk, the Bondi to Coogee walk goes for six km (3.7 miles) in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The walk features stunning views, beaches, parks, cliffs, vistas and rock formations.

There are plenty of places to see, grab a bite at, and rest for a little while before you head on to the next destination on the walk. This is not only a great way to see many different sights, but to experience the natural coastline as well.

Reason #8: Check Out the Bondi Icebergs Club

Open year round, the world-famous Icebergs swimming club offers access to ocean-fed lap pools which are a sight to see if you’ve never been. As you sit in the pool, you’ll notice it goes out into the ocean.

The feeling of sitting in one of these legendary pools while you enjoy the sunshine watching waves roll past you is an experience in and of itself. The history of the Icebergs is unique and the club is a great place to relax and soak up all of the history of the area around you.
