New South Wales residents don’t need much motivation to leave their homes after two years spent mostly indoors, but the State Government is giving that extra nudge after handing out $50 vouchers for accommodation.
The Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, Victor Dominello, says:
The Stay NSW Program has been expanded and fast-tracked, so people can enjoy a staycation sooner. Whether a quiet country inn, the family-run caravan park, or a hotel on Bondi Beach, every budget needs a boost this year.
In order to encourage residents to take a vacation across NSW, every adult in the state receives a voucher to redeem at a registered accommodation provider.
While the application is fairly accessible and simple for most, to sweeten the deal multiple Parents NSW Vouchers can be used in the same transaction up to $250 in total, including by different people.
Thankfully 94% of NSW is fully vaccinated, so you can worry a little less when you choose to re-explore and enjoy what Sydney has to offer. “Apply as soon as you can so you can check-in somewhere special, and check out somewhere new”, says Mr. Dominello, “These vouchers will give hard hit businesses much needed stimulus, while also encouraging residents to explore our great State.”
Eligibility and Application
Depending on where you live, you might have already received your voucher, as they’ve been released by the Local Government Area over the course of two weeks starting in February 2022. Thursday, March 3rd, they are available to all NSW residents in the state that are 18 and over.
You may apply for a voucher online, and use toward the cost of an accommodation booking of your choice. If you are unable to apply online, you can call 13 77 88.
You’ll need to create a MyServiceNSW account when starting your application, and 2 proofs of identity documents, such as your:
- NSW driver license
- Medicare card
- Australian passport
You’ll need a mobile device to download the Service NSW app to use the voucher. Once you successfully apply, you’ll be able to view your voucher on the Service NSW app within an hour, and receive an email from Service NSW with the voucher available to download and print.
Voucher Rules and Usage
Make sure to let the participating registered business that accepts Stay NSW Vouchers know that you will be using your voucher for payment when booking. You’ll present the voucher QR code when you’ve arrived for the business to scan at the time of payment. If you don’t have a mobile device available, you can provide a printed version of the voucher or the voucher code. This voucher is available to use 7 days a week, including during public holidays.
Remember that participating businesses can choose to not allow the vouchers to be used with other discounts or deals, and can choose to not accept the vouchers. If the value of your purchases is less than the value of your voucher, you won’t be able to use the remaining balance. You still will need to pay the business for your stay even if the voucher does not work or is unable to be used for payment.
These vouchers cannot be used for Airbnb’s, online accommodation booking platforms, or via travel agencies. While there are some rules and restrictions, you have until Sunday the 9th of October, 2022 to check in to your favorite spot or discover somewhere new. Don’t forget to plan with mates so you may combine vouchers with one another’s vouchers towards the same reservation, and save money while enjoying your getaway.
